Chord spelling of D Major:

D F# A

D is the open string ‘D’.

A is fretted by the first finger pressing down the ‘G’ string on the 2nd fret.

D is added down by the third finger holding down the ‘B’ string on the 3rd fret.

F# is the Top ‘E’ string with the second finger holding the 2nd fret down.
